Many mother animals care for their babies.; A robin brings food to the nest and uses her wings to shelter her babies from rain. A whale nudges her newborn baby to the surface for its first breath of air. And a musk ox stands between her calf and a wolf.

Beatrix Potter regularly uses a form of anthropomorphism in her children's stories. For example, in Peter Rabbit, we see a "Mrs. Rabbit" with decidedly human characteristics.

"Then old Mrs. Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella, and went through the wood to the baker's. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five currant buns."

No only are her actions human, so are the "tools of her trade".
