A "process paragraph" introduces a process in the topic sentence and then explains the step-by-step nature of the process in the supporting sentences. This form of writing requires careful attention to sequencing and details. Illustrations or diagrams are very helpful. Process writing is commonly associated with Science topics. It should not be confused with "how to" topics. For example, we can explain the process of water freezing (temperature, movement of molecules, etc) but that is very different than explaining how to freeze water. A process is generally something that can be observed while a "how to" is generally something that can be duplicated through action on the part of the reader.
Though explaining a process can be done in paragraph form, it can also be done in visual format using a diagram, flow chart, or labeled illustration as the core. When appropriate, this is perhaps the most meaningful form.
Examples of processes you could write about: the water cycle, from germination to plant to seed, micro-evolution/adaptation, erosion, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle, freezing and thawing of liquids, seasonal tilt, digestion, cell reproduction, etc.
