Being Prepared for the Big One!

Emergency Preparedness for the Intermediate (4-7) Grades with a Focus on Earthquakes

Instructions: 

1.  Go to www.getprepared.ca and down load an epub of the booklet, “ Your emergency preparedness guide”  Read page 4 and check out the link on that page.  Write a list of Risks that are relevant to your area.  Email this list to your teacher for assessment.

2.  Read page 5 of the ebook. 

Do this part of the family Emergency plan:  Draw up a floor plan of your home that shows all possible exits from each room. Plan a main exit route from each room.

Identify safe places where everyone should meet if you cannot go home or you need to evacuate.  Use the attached Emergency Contact Card and fill it in with your parents. 

Scan the floor plan to your teacher for assessment.  Confirm that you have filled in the Emergency Contact Card with your parents.

3.  Read “Earthquakes: Be Ready” PDF document that is attached.  Talk over with your family how you would use the plan you made in the case of a large earthquake.
