Course Resource - Assignment Ideas: Planning 10: Graduation Assignment 1
Skill or Concept Description for Learning Goal

Understand graduation requirements and know how to access information to help you meet those requirements.

Suggested Strategies or Projects for Learning Goals

Thoroughly read the following documents:

Go to your Student tab and open the section titled "High School Plan".  Copy the first two charts from this section into an e-mail.  Copy from Dogwood Diploma - Required Courses (52 credits)to Elective Courses (28 credits). (You won't need Other grade 11 or 12 Courses Completed unless you take more than the required number of courses. Yes, there is funding for courses beyond what is required.)

Working alone, with a parent, or with your mentor/teacher (let your teacher know if you wish to work with him/her)

  • Select specific Required Courses that meet requirements in this area. Your charts explain which courses are requried. It is very likely that you have already selected specific courses for grade 10. If you haven't already, have a look at the options for grades 11 and 12 and make specific selections for those. (see Course Planner Tool and below)
  • Now you can work on the fun part: Elective Courses. Make a tentative selection of courses that fulfill these requirements. Be sure that you have at least 3 grade 12 level courses. Your choices may be edited any time before graduation so go ahead and explore knowing that you won't be "locked in".
  • To see course options, click on your name, (top left corner, above), and select from the drop-down list.   Click on a topic area that interests you and then click on each individual tab within that topic area to see the variety of courses available. (Each tab is a course option.) Remember that course options may be modified to better fit you using the IDS option. (reread your documents if you have forgotten what this means)
  • Outside those listed as "Required" in your HS Plan chart, any class that you would like to take is considered an elective course.  Also remember that as a DL student, you can take your High School courses in any order. That means that if you wanted to, and felt you had the ability to, you could even take a grade 12 course in grade 10!
  • Generally, there is one course tab that just lists the simplified PLOs. This tab is most often used by students who enjoy open-ended courses (self-design), wish to find their own resources, wish to take courses or lessons held in their community, and/or wish to do their own research.
  • PC stands for Prepared Course.  These courses have the resources and assignments laid out for you.  All you have to do is start in- no modifications needed.
  • E stand for Elluminate which is an on-line interactive course (on a fixed schedule) led live by a teacher.
  • In Science and Math, tabs are set up to correspond with many of the commonly-used text books. Following the Course name, you will often see a few letters or a short word. These correspond with the text or text author. (Example: Wile for Jay Wile's Apologia, SA for Saxon, MU for Math U See, etc.)
  • Some subjects have other variations. Once once you get accustomed to looking at the tab format, the variations are often self-explanatory. Please feel free to ask if you need more information.

When you have completed your charts, please e-mail them to your teacher. (subject line: Your Name - Plan 10 - Grad 1)
