Title
Learning Goal - Writing Example: Plan
Skill or Concept Description for Learning Goal

At one time or another, each of us will be called upon to make a plan. Plan a meal, plan an event, plan a vacation, plan a play, plan a procedure, plan a birthday party, plan a journey, plan an experiment, plan a study, plan your courses for a year, plan your courses for graduation....

A plan isn't a guarantee of completion. It does however give inspiration, direction, and help you head off problems before they happen. It helps you know when to start, how to prepare, and what "ingredients" you will need.

Suggested Strategies or Projects for Learning Goals

How can we integrate plan writing across the curriculum? Here are a few ideas:

English Language Arts:

  • goals for a course and strategies for meeting those goals (PE, Health and Career Ed, Science, English, an IDS course, a business plan....)
  • a meal - menu, shopping, preparation, presentation, clean up
  • a move from one location to another
  • an event - who, what, when, where, what needed... (party, graduation, church service, demonstration....)
  • a vacation or journey - destination(s), route, accommodations
  • a play - setting, characters, props...
  • a procedure - plant a garden, arrange a room, pull a tooth, perform an operation, make clothing...
  • a birthday party - guests, games, food, time, place....
  • an experiment - hypothesis, materials, procedure
  • a study - hypothesis, procedure
  • your courses for a year
  • your courses for graduation

Integrated with Social Studies:

  • Select a person or significant creature from history. Complete one of the above from that person's historical perspective. Focus on historical accuracy of details.
