Title
Tutorial - Integrated English Instructions
Content

Students integrating their English with Socials, Science, and/or other subjects will provide learning evidence for all items listed in the first table titled "English - Learning Goals" and for the designated quantity in the second table titled "Writing Forms and Features". Items from chart one and two may be mixed, matched, and combined to your heart's content. For example, after reading about whales, a student might choose to write a descriptive paragraph in their notebook and accompany that with an illustration or diagram. When finished with their entry, they might choose to read their composition out loud to a parent and explain the diagram. This sequence of activities would result in a learning record containing:

Describe
Create an age appropriate essay / report
Deliver a spoken presentation
Deliver a visual presentation

The astute student might also choose to include an analogy in his/her description.  This would result in "analogy" being included in the learning record as well.

How to provide learning evidence?

During your weekly contact, tell your mentor/teacher what topics and activities you have been exploring:

[typed by student, dictated to someone who types, scanned, digital photo...]

We read and discussed the chapter on whales. Afterwards, I wrote a descriptive paragraph in my notebook (it is below OR it is attached OR You will see it at the end when I send pictures of my notebook.) I also drew a picture of an Orca whale. I am quite satisfied with my work. When grandpa and grandma were here, I read my paragraph to them and told them about my picture. They asked lots of questions and I answered them. Grandpa said I did a really good job. He could hear and understand all the words. (He is a little hard-of-hearing).

If you have not included actual work, let your mentor/teacher know when you plan to send it. If you are doing a notebook, or a lapbook, or a final project you may find it easier to send visual evidence all at once. Let you mentor know your plan.

I will send pictures at the end of our unit study.
I will show you when you come for our family visit.
I will send scans next week when Mom can help me.

You do not need to send picture evidence for every task completed.  Send the evidence listed in your learning plan.
